I've been playing for awhile, but really started to get into the game post college. I love nothing more than playing fast greens that actually move the way you read them. My natural swing is a fade that often gets away from me into the woods on the right. And I don’t usually score well the first time I play a new course.
I enjoy a cold beer or two following the round while everyone settles their bets and talks about their great shots and the pre-shot strategy on their not-so-great shots - I’m infamous for “Well, I was trying to….”
If you asked anyone what sport I was known to play, they would answer basketball. I only recently started trying to improve as a golfer because I was tired of losing all my bets to Baker and Caleb. Now I battle for every stroke, trying to get back in the black all-time for my career against those two. My love of golf has only grown as I’ve become more seasoned. I appreciate the beauty and solitude of each course, the fresh dewy grass at a 6:35 AM tee time, and the memories created with some of my best friends.
My new motto while standing over the golf ball is “Be an Athlete”, and my goal for this summer is to teach my new puppy to fetch my chip shots in the backyard.
Cheers!
A die hard yinzer through and through. I've been golfing for 20+ years and still waiting on that first hole-in-one, that’s going to be some kind of booze-fest I'll tell ya what. Only had 1 formal lesson when I was 7 or 8 years old, most of my game was taught to me by my Dad who spent 15+ years on the World Long Drive Tour & competed in numerous world championships. Infamous for driving par 4s and subsequently 3-putting for par, I guess I’m thankful that not all aspects of his game translated over to mine.
I can usually tell a lot about a person after 1 round of golf with them- golf has a unique way of translating everyday life to the course. How you react under pressure, how you react to adversity, how you react to success, general communication skills and attitude/demeanor- golf reveals it all. You’re off to a bad start if you play a round with me using iron head covers and/or a poker chip ball marker.
Big fan of the equalizing ability delivered by the handicapping system- nothing like it in all of sports. If you want to come out for 4 hours & hammer some beers, toss in a lipper, puff on a cigar, and throw some money around- I’m your guy, cheers. #TeamTaylorMade
Golf Addict - best way to describe myself. I love golf, golf clubs, golf clothes, golf shoes, golf accessories, golf décor, golf barware, golf trips, and golf movies. There isn't much about golf that I don't like, and if introduced to a new element, I am sure I would love that too. I recently shed my addiction to golf putters, but have replaced it with a growing addiction for golf shoes.
I've been playing since 5 years old, and like Caleb, my dad has been my teacher. I don't have anything against lessons from golf pros, but I take a lot of pride in the fact that I was taught by my dad who was a scratch golfer, who was taught by his uncle who was scratch. Aside from what he has passed onto me, I have been self taught. With the work I put into the game I was able to play some small time college golf.
I would say my game is in a transition right now. In the past my approach was always to try to overpower the course and scramble. One thing that has always gotten me in trouble is that I "think" I have every shot in my bag. I used to play by the motto, just because it's not the fairway for this hole doesn't mean you can't make birdie from it.
Lately my focus has shifted to being more accurate and thinking my way around the course. I am paying more attention to Fairways and GIRs.
My 2021 goals are to get to a 0 handicap, and to finally shoot a round in the 60s.
